The basic rule

  • You are not obligated to ship internationally:

Unless you explicitly state it in your ad, you are not required to send the item to a buyer outside of Switzerland or Liechtenstein.

  • State it clearly:

If you do not want to ship abroad, make sure this condition is clear in the ad description or in the shipping options.

What if a foreign buyer wins the auction?

  • If you did not offer international shipping:
    • You are not obligated to complete the sale.
    • Contact the buyer and explain that you do not ship abroad.
    • Suggest canceling the sale or ask them to arrange for a local pickup.
    • You can then proceed with the sale cancellation process to get your fees back.
  • If you did offer international shipping:
    • You are obligated to complete the sale.
    • Contact the buyer to negotiate international shipping costs, which are usually much higher.
    • Send the item after the costs and payment have been agreed upon.

Important tips for international shipping

  • Determine the costs:

Before offering international shipping, check the high costs of shipping and customs.

  • Clarity:

Clearly include these costs in your ad.

  • Customs and taxes:

Other countries may impose customs duties or sales taxes, which are the buyer’s responsibility.
